Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer – Oil & Gas Operations

Location: Basra

Position Overview:
Our client, a leading international energy company, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide day-to-day mechanical engineering support for site operations. This role focuses on managing risks, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and implementing minor modifications to ensure safe and efficient operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Brownfield Engineering team to optimize production capacity and reduce operational risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and open reporting.

  • Provide immediate support to Operations and Maintenance teams, resolving minor mechanical issues and escalating complex ones.

  • Monitor and manage risks related to static and rotating equipment, ensuring asset integrity and performance.

  • Participate in risk assessments, anomaly resolutions, and condition monitoring reviews.

  • Support technical Management of Change (MOC) processes and respond to Engineering Queries.

  • Act as a liaison between operations and project teams, contributing to project initiation, requirements, and decision support packages.

  • Drive production efficiency improvements and defect elimination initiatives.

  • Identify production vulnerabilities and optimization opportunities.

  • Perform follow-ups on self-verification checks related to mechanical engineering compliance.

  • Participate in startup readiness and assurance reviews.

  • Mentor and coach junior engineers to develop their technical capabilities.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the oil & gas industry, preferably with an International Oil Company (IOC) or as a contractor.

  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards chartership) is preferred.

  • Strong technical knowledge in asset engineering and operations.

  • Hands-on experience with production facilities, static & rotating equipment, and condition monitoring.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in IT tools such as MS Office, document management systems, CMMS, and Change Management applications.

  • Strong focus on behavior change management and continuous improvement.
